Harvest Hands Youth Update
Happy New Year!
2011 is here and we’ve enjoyed beginning this year in prayer with the city-church and seeking His direction in serving your students in this youth ministry of Kelowna Christian Center.
The purpose of this open letter is to communicate with you, as parents of youth in Harvest Hands, some of the changes and the ongoing direction of the youth department.
Since mid-November, we have had a shift in our leadership allowing us to accommodate new leaders and review the direction of the department. We are happy to say that we are continuing to reach new young people and that our services have been highlighted with great worship, teaching, food and fun – Great components of youth ministry!
We have enlisted the theme of “Be an Example ...” for the next three months and will be reviewing a new chapter of 1st & 2nd Timothy every week. Our challenge for each young person is to follow and meditate on that portion of scripture for the week and come prepared to uncover some of the spiritual nuggets in the scripture.
We have been fortunate that new leaders have decided to join and strengthen Harvest Hands Youth in the last few months. Each leader is building relationships with the students and are becoming the “big brothers” and “big sisters” in their lives – becoming those positive spiritual examples. I have been encouraged by their dedication and desire to serve the Lord and each other. It is truly a blessing!
I have been overseeing the ministry since mid-November and will continue to serve with the leadership team until a new leadership couple is found. We have had the opportunity to interview a few couples that feel a calling to youth ministry and to this church. We are awaiting the “go ahead” of the Lord before making the right appointment.
As of now, we have youth services every Tuesday evening starting at 7pm. All youth, grades 7-12, are invited to come. On alternating weeks, we split the youth group in Junior Youth (G.7-9) and Senior Youth (G.10-12). The Junior Youth are directed by Ryan Rilkoff and junior youth leaders and the Senior Youth is directed by myself and senior youth leaders. We have experienced real success with the dividing of the group as it encourages teaching based on relevancy and experience.
I would like to extend a personal invitation to any parents that are interested in joining us in one of our youth meetings to contact me at email@example.com or at the church office, 250-762-9559 ext.210.
Blessings in your own new year!
